Project provides improved access for paddlers

COLUMBUS, OH - The Ohio Department of Natural Resources recently completed improvements at Jacoby Road canoe access adjacent to the Little Miami State and National Scenic River in Greene County.

Located on one of the most scenic sections of the Little Miami, the access and associated 23-acre park are just a few miles east of U.S. Route 68, north of Xenia, south of Yellow Springs and west of Clifton. Improvements included regrading of the existing parking lot with a new gravel surface and an improved gravel walkway leading down to the river to provide for easier paddler access.

The Jacoby Road access is owned by ODNR and managed by Greene County Parks and Trails through a lease agreement. The site also provides excellent fishing and hiking opportunities, and primitive campsites can be reserved through Greene County Parks and Trails.

Ohio pioneered the river preservation movement in 1968 with the passage of the nation's first scenic rivers act. This legislation created a state program to protect Ohio's remaining high-quality streams for future generations. There are currently 14 designated state scenic rivers in Ohio.
